Since President Hu Jintao formally put forward the idea of "building a harmonious world" for the first time at the summit meeting commemorating the 60th anniversary of the founding the United Nations in September 2005, there has been loud resonance at home and abroad. The Foreign Affairs Work Conference of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) held in August 2006 put "persistently promoting the building a harmonious world" as one of the seven top goals for China's foreign affairs work in the new period, signifying that the thinking of building a harmonious world has become a most important principle guiding the theory and practice of China's foreign affairs. In the meantime, Chinese leaders have been advocating at various occasions proposals of building harmonious regions such as a harmonious Middle East, and a harmonious Asia-Pacific, pushing the theory of building a harmonious world from theoretical innovation to practice.
