Since 1990s, Sino-American relations in the area of nonproliferation have undergone a process from divergence to cooperation. The two sides have conducted various kinds of cooperation on nonproliferation and export control since mid-1990s, and hence, the overall situation has been positive. The past four years, in particular, have seen more concerted coordination between China and the United States on regional nonproliferation affairs, e.g., the DPRK nuclear issue, which has not only promoted bilateral relations but also enhanced China's national security and image in the international arena.
