This paper is a summarization of syndromes differentiation for treatment of six channels diseases in Shang Han Lun. The idea of protecting the spleen and stomach impenetrates the book from the beginning to the end. It emphasizes that protecting gastric qi is the basic principle for the treatment of six channels diseases. It establishes the diagnostic foundation for subsequent spenogastric theory from theoretic, methodological, prescriptional and pharmaceutical aspects.
