The emergence of culture studies in the 1990s, an immediate response of modern literary criticism to the history of transformation in the modernity of social and cultural structure, is not only the practice of criticism discourse but also the product of cultural breakthrough following criticism ~ removal of linguistic restraints. Culture studies, as a textual reproduction of ideology, has emancipated literary criticism from the narrow field of aesthetic self-discipline and probed profoundly into ideology in the discourse practice of modernity, thus having made criticism step onto a broader sphere of society, history and culture.
