The Review of Robert Fishman’ Suburbanization Study

Robert Fishman教授的“中产阶级乌托邦”、“科技型新城”、“全球型郊区”三篇文章分别提出了中产阶级行为价值取向的研究视角、“郊区走向消亡,科技型新城的兴起”的观点、发展中国家全球型郊区的假设,使我们对郊区化有更加深刻的认识。郊区化对西方发达国家的城市产生过重要影响,本文希望通过对Robert Fishman的郊区化研究在纵向尺度上的述评研究,获得对未来中国郊区化与城市发展研究的一些有益借鉴与启发。

In this paper, the authors mainly review American scholar Robert Fishman＇ s three articles on suburbanization, which are ＂Bourgeois Utopias： Visions of Suburbia＂, ＂Beyond Suburbia： The rise of the Technoburb＂ and ＂Global Suburbs＂. Professor Fishman, in those articles, respectively brought forward research view on value motivation middle class behavior, viewpoint about ＂fall of traditional suburban, rise of new technoburb＂ and the hypothesis of ＂global suburban in developing countries＂, which make us have bran-new cognition and enlightenment for suburbanization. The processes of suburbanization had important effect on cities in developed Western countries, the authors hope the review of Robert Fishman historic studies on suburbanization give some beneficial reference for the future study of suburbanization and urban development in China.
