从语篇分析的角度看《永远的憧憬和追求》两种英译文

Discussion on the two English versions of My Everlasting Dream and Pursuit from the perspective of discourse analysis

《永远的憧憬和追求》是萧红的一篇著名小传,语言真朴通俗,却意韵悠远。试从语篇分析的角度,从主述位切分、经验功能、人际功能三方面对比评析刘士聪和张培基的英译文,旨在说明,即使是文学翻译,从语篇分析这一角度“照来的光”也有助于评者发现传统感想式、印象式评判中易被忽视的问题,而且,处理翻译难点时,译者如运用语篇分析的方法,有时会得到意想不到的帮助。

My Everlasting Dream and Pursuit is a brief autobiography by Xiao Hong, well-known for its simple, unadorned language and long-lasting artistic charm. This paper studies Prof. LIU Shicong＇s and Prof. ZHANG Peiji＇s English translations of this essay from a discourse analysis approach in terms of theme - rheme division of the sentence, experiential metafunction and interpersonal metafunction. It aims to prove that discourse analysis sheds light even on the literary translation field and thus can help translators to spot problems that tend to go unnoticed in impressionistic comments, and that an application of discourse analysis may sometimes prove to be an unexpected aid to thorny translation problems.
