Milu (i. e. David's deer), giant panda and Chinese alligator, which are some of the rarest animals in the world, all originated in China. From the second half of the 19th century, they were discovered and hunted by Western collectors of biology coming to China, who then secured and transported these animals from China to Europe and America, arousing great interest in the weet because of their special value in science and aesthetics. This paper deals with the collection and primitive research on the animals carried out by the Westerners.
