The paper synthesizes some ancient Chinese theories about the causes of dreams, including such theories as the influences by the heavenly bodies, the movements of celestial bodies, physics, and physiology and the theory of dreams from thinking and thetheory of contents in which thinking can＇ t explain the causes of all the dreams. These theories reflect the understanding and explorations of dreams by ancient Chinese scholars from different angles. Their common point is that the content of a dream is significant. It is the reflection of the reality and signal of the future.
