The Narrative Person in the Fifth Chinese Daughter

美国华裔女作家黄玉雪在其自传体小说《华女阿五》中没有采用自传通常采取的第一人称叙事手法,而是刻意以第三人称叙述整个故事。本文拟从叙事学叙事人称的角度分析这一现象,并试图发现这一与自传体相矛盾的叙述方式对叙述效果的影响,从而更好地揭示小说作者向美国主流社会展现传统中国文化、以促进白人社会对华人的理解和同情这一创作主旨。

Jade Snow Wong＇s autobiographical novel The Fifth Chinese Daughter is not narrated in the first person but in the third person. This paper analyzes this special narrative way and its influence on the narrative effect in aims at revealing the writer＇s creating object better and promoting readers＇ understanding of the novel.
