摘要 Wax gourd (Benincasa hispida Thumb. Cogn) is called white gourd, winter melon, Chinese preserving melon, Chinese squash, and don kwa. It has been cultivated in China for over 2 300 years. It probably Wax gourd (Benincasa hispida Thumb. Cogn) is called white gourd, winter melon, Chinese preserving melon, Chinese squash, and don kwa. It has been cultivated in China for over 2 300 years. It probably originated in China and India. Its planting area is 140 thousand hm^2 in China every year. Chieh-qua (Benincasa hispida Cogn. var.Chieh-qua How.), a variety of wax gourd, is an important, indigenous vegetable cultivated in South China. Its planting area is 14 thousand ha in South China every year.
