The 100 kt/a coke oven gas-to-methanol unit at Shandong Tengzhou Shenlong Coking Company designed by the No. 2 Design Institute of Chemical Industry has been successfully put on stream while cranking out high quality methanol. This is the third coke oven gas-to-methanol unit after successful commissioning of a 80 kt/a Yunnan methanol unit in 2004 and an 100 kt/a Hebei methanol unit in 2005. It is said that the design of this third methanol unit has been further optimized on the basis of the previous two units in order to improve the resource utilization rate and the environmental and economic benefits. The Tengzhou Shenlong Coking Company began to construct the coke oven gas-to-methanol unit starting from November 2004 while investing around 400 million RMB in the project. The construction of this unit was completed after two years. The operation of this unit can solve the wasteful usage of resources and environmental pollution related with venting of around 200 million m^3 of coke oven gas a year. Utilization of waste gas will bring about enormous economic benefits.
