Incantation is one of the oldest forms of culture, and the research in this field is indispensable to the study of human society and culture. This essay probes into the origin, taxonomy and function of incantation. Incantation originated and developed almost concurrently with human evolution. The taxonomy of incantation involves many factors, including the government and the ordinary people, Buddhism and Taoism, differences and similarities in its essence, and the diversification of its means.
