游艇起源于17世纪中叶，当时英国查尔斯二世登基，荷兰送了一艘做工精细的皇家狩猎渔船作为庆贺之礼，这艘船便成为了历史上第一艘私家游艇。到了18世纪，西方游艇制造和消费逐渐发展，成为欧洲海洋国家夸耀自我，显示地位的一种象征。

Yachts originated in the mid-17th century, when King Charles II ascended the throne, the Dutch presented him a royal hunting fishing boat, called YACHT, which is known as the first private yacht in the world. By the 18th century, the yacht building and consumption in the western countries was undergoing a progressive development, and became a symbol for some European countries to boast their advanced status. Nowadays, in Europe, North America and Oceania, yacht has become a common recreational tool for the ordinary people. Statistics show, in 2005, the Yacht ownership of United States is 1：18 （it means one in every 18 persons have owned a yacht）, Britain 1：125, Italy 1：67 and France 1：66.
