通过周作人20世纪二三十年代发表的大量有关日本研究的文章,分析周作人对作为一种独立的民族文化的日本文化的理性认识和思考,日本文化是一种与中国文化有密切渊源关系和独立的民族文化,日本文化在某些方面甚至胜过中国文化,日本与中国具有文化上的平等地位,这个认识在周作人是明确不疑的。这是周作人的日本文化观,而这个日本文化观正是他的整个世界文化观的一个投影。“周作人强调在尊重他民族文化的基础上,建立一种宽容的、多元的世界文化观,这可以说是周作人的一个基本思想。正是在这宽容的、多元的世界文化观的支配下,他坚持自己的日本研究的提倡,并对日本文化和日本国民性进行了思考和探讨。

Zhou Zuoren＇s rational knowledge and consideration of the Japanese culture which exists as independent national culture is analysed through his numbers of articles on Japan study published between the 1920s and 1930s. Zhou firmly held the views that the Japanese culture was an independent culture that had close relationship in origin with the Chinese culture, that the Japanese culture was even superiour in certain aspects to the Chinese culture, and that Japan was culturally equal with China. Such a view can also be regarded as Zhoug outlook on the Japanese culture ,which also clearly reflects his outlook on the world culture. It is considered as one of Zhou＇s fundamental thoughts to develop a tolerant multi - element outlook on the world culture on the basis of respect for other national cultures. It is under the domination of a tolerant multi - element outlook on the world culture that Zhou firmly held advocacy of study of Japan and made a ponder on the Japanese culture and nationalism.
