On Evolution of Painted Patterns on Coloured Pottery

中国彩陶上的纹饰,大部分具有地区性,是氏族集体的象征物,是作为“有意味”图形而存在的,这类纹饰一旦产生,在随后的发展中都有成系列性的逐渐抽象化的考古性的报告。这类纹饰的抽象化,从艺术发展的角度来说,经历了“有意味的内容”、“有意味的形式”和“纯装饰性的形式”三个阶段。

Most of the painted patterns on coloured pottery in China are of regional characteristics, which are the symbol of clan collective and exist for different meanings. Once they came into being, the series of gradual abstract and archaeological reports on their development would followed. From the angle of artistic development, the abstractness of these painted patterns experienced three stages of meaningful contents, meaningful forms and pure decorative forms.
