H.Laurence＇s novel,Lady Chatterhy＇s Lover,forbidden to the public reading in the 1930s was then translated and introduced to China.The paper focuses on the main four factors for its translation and introduction then, i. e. the social background of the original works,the content and significance of the novel,the translators and the social and cultural background of China at that time,which can also reflect the situation of Chinese society then.
