Objective To explore the expression of MDM2 and P53 protein in the squamous carcinoma of the cervix and its relationships, and explore the mechanisms of occurrence and development of the squamous carcinoma of the cervix. Methods To detect the expressions of MDM2 and P53 protein in the 50 cases of squamous cell carcinoma of cervix,30 cases of atypical hyperplasia tissues of tumor - adjacent and 50 cases of normal mucosa of uterine cervix respectively from the third affiliated hospital of Zhengzhou university from march 2003 to march 2006 by immunohistochemistry SP method. Results The positive expression rated of MDM2 protein in the squamous carcinoma of the cervix, atypical hyperplasia tissues of tumor - adjacent normal mucosa of uterine cervix were lower in turn, furthermore the positive expression rate of MDM2 protein in the carcinoma tissues is compared with that in the propotional adjacent tissues and normal mucosa tissues from each other, there is statistical significance( P 〈 0. 05 ). The positive expression rates of P53 protein in the squamous carcinoma of the cervix, atypical hyperplasia tissues of tumor - adjacent normal mucosa of uterine cervix were lower in turn, furthermore the positive expression rate of P53 protein in the carcinoma tissues is compared with that in the propotional adjacent tissues and normal mucosa tissues from each other, there is statistical significance( P 〈 0. 05 ). Conclusion MDM2 and P53 play the significant roles during the process of benign lesion to lesion precancerous of mucosa of uterine cervix.
