中国作为华裔女作家谭恩美小说中重要的意象和写作背景,具有两面性。其既是造成母女关系紧张和痛苦的根源,又是建构母女融洽关系的纽带;既是剥夺华裔女性文化身份的父权制话语,又是赋予华裔女性种族话语权的叙事策略;既是作者借以救赎华裔灵魂的“圣杯”,又是作者隐匿的东方主义心态的折射。
China, as an important image and writing resource in Amy Tan＇s novels, has two sides. On the one hand, it causes the conflicts between mothers and daughters; it deprives female Chinese Americans＇ voice; and it functions as the ＂Holy Grail＂ to save Chinese Americans＇ souls. On the other hand, it blesses the mothers and daughters with a good relationship; it endows them a special female narrative; and it embodies the author＇s orientalism thinking.
