Cultural Differences and Non-equivalence of Vocabulary Translating between English and Chinese

从语言的社会功能看,英汉文化差异在词汇层面上往往体现得最为突出,涉及面也最广。本文从英汉文化差异着手,探讨了英汉词汇的不等值现象,并分析了词汇空缺、词汇转义、词汇外延与内涵不同等三种情况。最后提出了处理这些问题的一般性原则。

The cultural differences between English and Chinese are especially reflected at the lexical levels. This article firstly analyzes the cultural differences, and then studies the non-equivalence of the vocabulary translating and puts forward some basic principles.
