My Ideas of the Author of "Journey to the West"

《西游记》成书以来,版本纷繁,其作者扑朔迷离,鲁迅、胡适先生根据淮安府志提供的线索及淮安方言推断《西游记》的作者为淮安人吴承恩。根据这一论断,近二、三十年来发掘了许多与吴承恩有关联的资料,但这些资料仍显不足,疑点仍然很多。文章就方志、石刻、语言、民间传说等方面资料,认为《西游记》的作者应当是生活在云台山区的明代长春庵真人邱楚基,而元代的长春真人邱处机乃属以讹传讹,其主要原因是《西游记》的产生过程属历史事实、民间传说及再加工再创作的糅合,因此,就决定了它的作者的复杂性。

The edition of ＂Journey to the West ＂ is numerous and complicated since the book was in circulation and its author is also complicated and confusing. Mr. Lu Xun ＆ Hu Shi inferred that the author of ＂Journey to the West ＂ was a Huaian man named Wu Cheng- en, by the clue of Huaian government records and Huaian dialect. According to this judgment, a lot of materials related to Wu Cheng - en were discovered in last twenty or thirty years, but these materials are still insufficient and the doubtful points are still numerous. According to the materials such as dialects, stone engravings, language, popular legends, etc, the author of ＂Jottmey ;o the West＂should be the true man of Changchun Buddhist nunnery named Qiu Chuji who lived in Yuntai Mountain in Ming Dynasty and Qiu Chuji, true man of Changchun in Yuan Dynasty was only an erroneous message. The reasons for its author＇s complexity may be that the process of ＂Journey to the West＂ was a mixture of reprocessing and recreating the historical fact and popular legends.
