Marriage of Chu State with Other States

楚国与其他诸侯国的联姻是楚国政治生活的重要方面,不仅反映了楚国与各国之间的关系变化,也有助于了解东周时期复杂的国家之间的关系。楚国联姻与其国策密切相关,春秋早期为求发展多与周边小国如郧、邓等进行联姻,春秋中晚期至战国初期,争霸使其与其他大国如秦、晋等联姻频繁,战国中晚期楚国由盛而衰,联姻已失去其政治意义。由于文化差异及地理位置关系,楚国无固定的联姻国,与东周王室也无联姻关系。

The marriage of Chu state with other states was an important aspect in political status of the Chu state, which not only showed the variety of the relationship between the Chu state and other states, but also contributed to understanding complicated international relationships during the Spring and Autumn and the Warring States Periods. The State Marriage of Chu was related with its national policies, in the early stage of the Spring and Autumn in order to develop the Chu state often married to other little states that around it, for example Yun and Deng, from the middle and later stage of the Spring and Autumn to the early stage of the Warring States, in order to strive for suprernacy, it usually married to other large states, such as Qin and Jin etc, but it had lost the political meaning in the late Warring States periods for its declining. Because of cultural difference and geography positions, the Chu state had no fixed marriage state, and also had no marriage relation with the royal in the Spring and Autumn and the Warring States Periods.
