上海当代艺术馆是上海第一座关注当代艺术和当代设计的私人美术馆。严格地讲．它除了对当代艺术的推介作为学术上立馆的根本．更多关注的是纯艺术和设计，时尚．建筑及社会学等其他领域之间的关系．从严肃的学术高度去挖掘新的研究视角和对先前的理论进行重新阐释的可能性。所谓先前的理论所指的不仅仅是艺术史和艺术评论．也不仅仅是对跨学科研究新的可能性的探寻．而是进一步以真情服务社会大众．用最真切的语言．即．优秀的当代艺术展览与社会大众倾心交流．这就是上海当代艺术馆所希冀的。

MoCA Shanghai is the first private museum in Shanghai to focus on contemporary art and design. Strictly speaking, besides seeking to fulfill its foundational principle of serving as a platform for the promotion of contemporary art, the museum focuses even greater attention on the relationships among pure art, design, fashion, architecture, and the other fields of sociology. Descending from the serious/austere heights of academics, the museum seeks to excavate possibilities for new research visions and for new interpretations of the theories of past times. Those theories did not merely deal with art history and art criticism, nor did they simply deal with the search for new possibilities of academic research; instead they represent a means of serving the societal masses with the truth.
