摘要
This special issue, "NGOs and Social Transition in China," contains seven articles answering the following two questions: What is the situation of NGOs in China? How should this situation be understood? Three out of these seven articles answer the first question. Deng Guosheng focuses on the economic contribution of NGOs in his comparative study. Wang Ming describes the evolution and features of NGOs in China from historical and present-day perspectives. Liu Peifeng deals with the legal and policy aspects of NGOs in China in a discussion of current laws and regulations on NGOs and their administration. The other four answer the second question. Kang Xiaoguang and Han Heng base their discussion of the government administration of NGOs on institutional analysis from the perspective of the state-society relationship. Lin Shangli discusses the relationship of political parties and NGOs and the approach the CPC takes in its administration of NGOs from the perspective of political science. Jia Xijin provides organizational and governance analysis on the role and characteristics of NGOs from the point of view of public participation. And Tao Chuanjin deals with community building and grass-roots associations in his analysis of social capital. We hope these articles may provide clues to the development of NGOs in China's process of social transition and to the latest developments in research on this subject.
