摘要
We are publishing two stories about how in Sichuan Province, southwest China, farmers are getting rich with help from local governments by developing "non-traditional undertakings." In China's current official terminology, a "non-traditional undertaking" can be anything other than the undertaking on which farmers, by tradition, depend for the bulk of their incomes-for example, crop and animal farming in most of China's farming areas. "Non-traditional" undertakings are more profitable than "traditional" ones.
