The Spreading and Influence of Introduction to the Study of History in China

五四时期,在我国史学专业化的背景下,《史学原论》作为西方史学方法论的经典教科书,在史学界流传甚广。胡适、李泰棻、梁启超等人的著作深受此书的影响。民国时期不少青年学生赴法留学,跟随《史学原论》著者研习史学方法,这些中国留学生归国后执教于各地大学历史系,极力宣扬师说,使西方史学方法论在大学课程设置中得到贯彻,“史学方法”被官方定为必修课。这本教科书在中国现代史学专业化进程中产生了重大的作用。

Against the background of the professionalization of Chinese historiography during the May 4th Movement, Introduction to the Study of History （《史学原论》）as a classical textbook on the methodology of western scientific historiography spread widely in Chinese history field. Some historians, especially Hu Shi, Li Taifen and Liang Qichao were influenced by this book profoundly. During the period of the Republic of China, some Chinese students went to France and followed Seignobos to study methodology of history, most of them held teaching positions in the department of history at many universities after they returned to China, advocating Seignobos＇ theory. As a result, western methodology of history was carried out in the course installation at many universities. Methodology of history was chosen as a required course by The Ministry of Education. Introduction to the Study of History plays an important part in the professionalization of modern Chinese historiography.
