Li Shi-min, the second emperor of the Tang dynasty(618-907), disagreed with the traditional Confucian musical viewpoint of that music was united with politics. Instead, it should be separated from and subordinate to the latter. His such belief, largely owed to his specific experience and the historic task at that time, well explained the phenomenon of simple-oriented gagaku and prosperous pop music.
