The notion of frames originates from computational psychology, and later comes into wide use as an approach to discourse analysis by some linguists. The discourse outlook of frames turns out to be fairly useful in analyzing the generation and interpretation of some linguistic jokes, for which the view of socio-cultural frames can provide sound explanations.
