Symbolism, as a very important school in the history of Western literature, has made great contribution to the western literature, especially, to the development of Western poetry. This paper aims to the probe of the source of the early Western symbolist poetry and the analysis of the characteristics of the poetry during the period, and finally illustrates the artistic value of this literary school and its profound influence on the Western literature.
