A Valediction ： Forbidding Mourning is one of John Donne＇s best - known poems. In the poem, Donne tries to comfort his beloved wife because he has to go away from her for a period of time. Some feminist readers would criticize the poem as Donne seems to describe his wife as a dependent woman on her husband, but most readers admire their profound love. The author is among the latter, and reads the poem in a traditional way, and then demonstrates her deep appreciation of the use of metaphors as well as the poem itself in this essay.
