A Review of the Newspaper Industry in Hunan at the Initial Phase of the Republic of China

民国初期,政治变革、思想文化运动与社会发展为湖南报刊的发展提供了肥沃的土壤,报刊发展出现了新气象。社会各阶层人士敢于面对暴力,展开各种灵活机动的办报活动,伸张正义,有力地打击了湖南的各种反动落后势力,报刊本身的素质也得到了提高。报刊为当时湖南的社会进步作出了贡献。

At the initial phase of the R.epublic of China, the innovation of politics, the movement of ideology and culture and the development of society offered possibilities for the advancement of the newspaper industry in Hunan. People of all classes had the courage to face violence and employed all kinds of flexible operations to maintain .justice. Therefore, all the backward and reactionary forces in Hunan were seriously cracked down and the quality of newspapers is improved. Newspapers made great contribution to the advancement of Hunan at that time.
