Biography of Xiang Chu

按:向楚,字先乔(仙樵),号觙翁(1877—1961),生于四川巴县,著名文史学家。先后在成都高等师范学校、成都大学、成都师范大学、四川大学任教多年,曾任四川大学文学院院长、中文系教授、四川大学校长,对成都地区各高校的发展壮大贡献良多,晚年任《巴县志》总纂。《巴县志》成书25卷,不仅在国内各大图书馆,而且在国外图书馆都有珍藏,是研究蜀地风俗历史的必读材料。

to the author, Xiang Chu, also called Xianqiao, and his alias Ji Weng （ 1877 - 1961 ）, was a well - known literary historian, teaching respectively in Chengdu Normal School, Chengdu University, Chengdu Normal University and Sichuan University for years as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts, Professor of the Chinese Language Department and President of Sichuan University. He did valuable contributions to the development and growth of colleges and universities in Chengdu, especially compiled as the editor-in- chief the 25 - volumned ＂Annals of Baxian County＂, which, as a must in the study of the history of Sichuan customs, are collected in both domestic libraries and foreign libraries.
