Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of body weight on the outcome of patients receiving in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF- ET) treatment. Methods: A retrospective study was carried out on 140 patients who first received IVF - ET. According to their body mass index ( BMI), they were divided into two groups by a cutoff of 24 kg/m^2 : normal weight ( BMI 〈 24 kg/m^2, P = 103 ) and overweight ( BMI 〉124 kg/m2, n = 37), and these two groups were compared in regards to the outcome of IVF - ET. Results: Days of stimulation and hyperstimulation in the overweight group was higher than the normal weight group ( P 〈 0. 05 ) ; There were no significant differences in other indexes between the two groups. Conclusion: Overwei - ght can take some negative effects on the outcome of IVF- ET, so loss weight to overweight patients before IVF- ET may improve the outcome.
