Yuan Shikai and Jing Yanbin Uprising

袁世凯与崑冈等人的争论,仍是义和团时期清流派与洋务派争论的继续,崑冈等尊崇儒家学说,不懂得中西文化可以交流,共同进步,认为学习外国长处,不是离经叛道,仍然坚持尊王攘夷,杀洋人,杀教民。袁世凯等反对杀无辜洋人、教民,主张严刑峻法,坚决镇压以遏乱萌,杜外国兴兵借口。

KunGang was in favor of Confucianism and he didn＇ t think China and the west could learn from each other. He maintained that foreigners and Christians deserved killing. Yuan Shikai, however, held that foreigners and Christians shouldn＇ t be killed at will. Yuan was on the side of severe punishment in this case so as not to give foreign countries any exercise to dispatch troops to China.
