A Chinese ship was cast away on the coast of the Hachijo-jima Island in 1753 with 441 kinds of Chinese books on board. These books were compiled by Japanese scholars into a research digest entitled Dai Yi Sho ( The Digest of the Books on Sale from China ), which is of significance for the study of the book trade history. Taking Dai Yi Sho as a case study, this paper examines the book trade between China and Japan in the Qianlong regnal period, and further investigates into its influence on the Chinese study of bibliotheca. This paper suggests that in order to expand the research scope of the history of books and to improve the research methodology, a comparative study should be carried out among the bibliography of "books on trade" in the Edo Period, the public and private bibliotheca of the book collections in the past, and the library bibliotheca of today's China.
