A Study on the Development of Taiwan Multi-Cultural Policy and Hakka Culture in the 21st Century

20世纪末,台湾客家族群之文化意识逐渐苏醒。在21世纪全球化浪潮和台湾施行多元文化发展政策之下,台湾的客家文化,正面临一个新的发展局面。政府推动多元文化发展政策,逐渐重视客家文化之发展,改善过去客家文化式微的境况。台湾客家族群,正可顺应全球化与多元文化政策发展潮流,在台湾本土建构一套完整的客家文化发展政策,使客家文化成为台湾文化的一项重要内涵,进而建构台湾成为全球客家文化的重镇。

At present Hakka people are the second largest population in Taiwan. But Hakka culture and Hakka language in Taiwan are getting more and more oblivious during last decade. The changes in the social structure in Taiwan over a long period of time have greatly affected the Hakka culture. The mission for the Hakka people is to do their best for the promotion and development for Hakka culture and language, and for the sake of a long-term life for the Hakka culture and language in the 21st century. This paper aims to discuss various aspects of Hakka and Hakka culture and the multi-cultural policy developing in Taiwan. There has to be some advancement to enable the Hakka culture and language to find their positions, the spaces for existence and to make them survive for generations.
