As a literary term, 'deep image' refers to an important school in American poetry, as well as a peculiar image which helps the poet express emotions and meanings. It is also viewed as a kind of poetics with distinctive aesthetic and creative writing ways. It differs from Anglo-American Imagist ideas on image. Deep imagists assume that poetry is an art that penetrates for an instant into the unconscious. Deep image comes from the poet's deep and dark unconscious world. The theme of this kind of poetry tends to be 'solitude, and darkness' in man's psychic life. It proposes that poetry should be concerned about the psyche.
