章惇的经略荆湖,对宋室中央集权具有特殊的战略价值。综观章惇一生的为人为事,其德量、操行、能力均有过人之处,可算是北宋著名的政治家之一。正是由于章惇等人的努力,内外交困的宋室才得以“帑庾盈溢”。而修史者将其列入奸臣传,既有失公允,也有失史家的操行。

Zhang dun＇s plan and control to J inghu had particular strategic value to the centralism of the Song dynasty. As far as Zhang Dun＇s virtue, moral conduct and capability were concerned, he was one of the greatest politicians of the Song dynasty, just because of Zhang Dun and his followers＇efforts, could the Song dynasty eontitue its prosperity in a situation of besetting with difficulties both at home and abroad. However, Zhang Dun was regarded as a treacherous court official by historcans, which not only deserted the justice, but also the moral conduct of a historican.
