Based on the theory of personality structure developed by Frued, Tang Seng for Tang Monk), Zhu Bajie for the Pig Guy) and Sha Heshang for the monk Sha Seng), the three characters in The Journey to the West, are interpreted as representatives of superego, id and ego personalities, respectively, and Monkey King is the personification of all the three. This paper analyzes the four characters from the perspectives of evil nature, human nature and divine nature, and points out that the creation of the four images is the result of the author's transplanting his emotion from the mental world to previous models in stories out of history and in Buddhist classics, and The Journey to the West is the external representation of the author's "mind travel".
