By combining and opposing his companion books The Call of the Wild and White Fang, the paper presents the view that the American novelist Jack London,in his White Fang, expresses his additional understanding of Darwin's theory of "survival of the fittest",i.e.survival of the fittest not only means the adaptation to the cruel competition for survival but also the adaptation to civilized life,in which love plays a crucial role.
