The Harmonious Transition in the Process of Political Modernization——On Huntington's Theory of Political Modernization

亨廷顿的政治现代化理论中,提到了关于现代化中国家在从传统政体到现代政体的过渡性问题。在过渡中必然面临各种发展目标冲突的困境,对这些目标之间各种变量的把握与平衡成为和谐过渡中的关键。其中,经济发展、社会改革与政治现代化;政治参与和政治制度化;政治社会化和政治的阶级性;政治输出与暴力、腐化;政党与利益集团;权威与民主;作为变量的文化因素等是其中比较突出与关键的变量,体现了亨廷顿作为政治保守主义者的倾向。虽然这种倾向是以西方的自由、民主的价值观为背景的,但是对我们建设和谐社会具有借鉴作用。

Huntington mentioned the transitional problem of a modernizing country in the course of changing from traditional system of government to modern system. In the process of transition there must be the conflict of different developing goals. Mastering the variations of the different goals are keys to the smooth transition. The crucial variations include the economic development,social reform and political modernization, political involvement and political institutionalization, political socialization and the class nature, the political output and violence and corruption, political party and interest group, authority and democracy, and the cultural elements etc. These ideas reveal Huntington as a political conservative orientation. Although the background of the trend is the Western values of liberty and democracy it can also serve as reference for our practice of developing harmonious society.
