The works of the American Southern writer Flannery O' Connor clearly show a tendency to destroy the flesh of her characters. Most of the critics believe that this is the reflection of O' Connor' s morbid impression of the flesh produced by the agonies of her own illness. In fact, as a devout Christian, O' Connor' s view of the flesh is essentially religious. This article attempts to reveal the root cause of O' Connor' s view of the flesh from her religious beliefs, her understanding of the flesh and the significance of the destruction of the flesh.
