The assessment of teaching and studying is one of the important parts of teaching process as it effects a lot on both of the teaching and leaning. With the comparison on the use of both formative evaluation and summative assessment in college English teaching, the advantages of formative evaluation is dealt with. The applying of formative evaluation is proposed greatly combining teaching practice.
