On the Norm of Etiquette in the Ideas of Confucianism

礼制在儒学思想中具有重要作用,既是“定亲疏、决嫌疑”的人伦准则,又是“别同异、明是非”的理性准则。从文化学意义分析,礼是古代中国社会文化价值观的方式之一。“礼”的核心是“仁”,“中庸”在维护族群情感需要和社会秩序稳定方面起到了重要的平衡作用。

Norm of etiquette plays an important role in the ideas of Confucianism, which is not only the human relation criterion （ according to feudal ethics） for dividing close associates and mere acquaintances, deciding what is suspected, but also the rational criterion for differentiating the same from the difference, distinguishing right from wrong. Analyzed from the meaning of the science of culture, norm of etiquette is one of the ways to show ancient China＇ s social and cultural values. The core of the norm of etiquette is benevolence called ＂Ren＂, in which the doctrine of the mean functions as a balance to maintain the emotional needs of a clan and at the same time to protect the stableness of the social order.
