摘要
模糊限制语在英语学术文体中普遍应用。本文根据Salager-Meyer对于学术论文中模糊限制语的分类,通过对比分析北京地区三所高校英语专业和美国纽约地区Hofstra大学心理学专业本科毕业论文中模糊限制语的使用情况,发现我国英语专业学生运用模糊限制语的能力薄弱,提出应将模糊限制语的语用功能介绍融入毕业论文写作指导中,提高英语专业学生学术论文语言的规范性和得体性。
Hedges, as sophisticated rational strategies used to mitigate the presentation or conclusion of claims put forward by the authors, are crucial in academic discourse. Alter comparing the conclusion/discussion section of undergraduate theses written by English majors of three universities in Beijing and Psychology majors in Hofstra University, U.S.A., this paper finds that the English majors examined are not fully aware of the pragmatic func- tions of hedges in academic writing and lack of proper application of hedging devices. Therefore, it is necessary' to combine the introduction of hedges into the instruction on thesis writing for English majors in our country, so as to improve the language appropriateness in their thesis and conform to the conventions of English academic writing.
