Aesthetic Pursuit of Descriptive Language in Chinese Novels

小说描述语言是一种赋予审美对象完形、灵动的叙事形态,其审美职责是刻画出丰满、逼真、有生气、有活力的描述对象。为此,中国小说描述语言追求形象、逼真、细腻、传神的审美感知效果,力争把描述对象的形态状貌、性质特征、风格品味、景象气氛等充分饱满、形神兼备地展示出来。

In stories, language used for description is characterized by a fluent narrative style which makes the object aesthetically perfect in form. Its aesthetic task is to pursue and bring out such qualities as richness, life--likeness, vividness, and animation in the object of description. It tries to, both in form and spirit, fully depict the physical appearance, style, taste, ambience and setting associated with the object of description.
