A Discussion on Several Problems in A New Chronicle of Lin Zexu's Life

《林则徐年谱新编》是一部非常富有学术与文献价值的著作,颇得学术界的好评。但细读全书,仍发现些许问题与史实不符,如魏源是道光二十四年进士,林昌彝为林则徐的同乡后辈,以及孙毓是林则徐的同年友等,均不能成立。考察相关史料,魏源是道光二十五年进士,林昌彝为林则徐的族弟,孙毓与林则徐根本不是同年友。这些问题尽管是白璧微瑕,但也有辨析的必要。

A New Chronicle of Lin Zexu＇ s Life is of great academic and documental value and has been greatly appreciated by the academic circles. But by reading the whole book in detail, it has been found that several places of description, such as several person＇ s relationship with Lin Zexu, do not conform to the historical reality. Even though these are trivial problems, there is a great necessity to make a distinction.
