Reconsideration of the selecting criteria of Selected Works

《文选序》分三个层次阐说了怎样对待《文选》的选录标准问题:首先,要区分“选录范围”和“选录标准”这两个不同的概念;其次,分析“事出于沉思,义归乎翰藻”这句话不是在说《文选》的选录标准;第三,应将萧统本人的文学观与《文选》的实际选录标准区别开来;从萧统的其他作品、甚而至于从其他人的作品中“找寻”出一个所谓的《文选》的“选录标准”也是不妥的。讨论《文选》的选录标准,较稳妥的方法是从《文选》文本出发,仔细分析每一篇作品的性质、文体特征、艺术特色,从而归纳、概括出《文选》实际的选录标准。

Preface to Selected Works discusses how to deal with the selecting criteria of Selected Works from three aspects：first,it is essential to distinguish between the two different concepts of ＂selecting area＂ and ＂selecting criteria＂ ; second, analysis of shi chu yu chen si and yi gui yu han zao＇ s not refering to selecting criteria;third,it is necessary to distinguish between Xiao Tong＇ s literary points of view and actual selecting criteria and it is improper to search for the so-called selecting criteria of Selected Works from other works of Xiao Tong and even the works of other people. It is a more reliable way to discuss the selecting criteria of Selected Works by proceeding from text and carefully analyzing the nature,features of each work in order to sum up the real selectine criteria.
