Human sufferings are one of the constant themes in T. S. Eliot＇s poems. However, different from his early poems in which anxiety and desperation is the key note, Four Quartets reveals the poet＇s further spiritual exploration into human sufferings. In the course of this exploration, the poet gives a complete description of human sufferings of all kinds, he then points out the causes and significance of human sufferings from Christian perspective. Eliot concludes that human sufferings are actually a show of love and an act of salvation of God, and man should take it calmly. In doing so, Eliot is in the position to relocate the hope and significance of human life.
