Electro-flotation in solid-liquid separation and its kinetics study

The separation of suspended solids from an activated sludge process was carried out in an electro-flotation cell that has two sets of electrodes, three Ti/RuO2-IrO2-TiO2 anodes and three Ti screen cathodes. The effect of hydraulic retention time （HRT） on the performance of the electro-flotation system was examined. The kinetics of flotation of suspended solids by electrolytically generated micro-bubbles was also studied and found to follow first order rate expression. Electro-flotation cell can accomplish high performance in solid-liquid separation application of this type.
