Virginia Woolf describes vividly how women were kept in the unfortunate and marginalized positions by men and the patriarchal system they made in To the Lighthouse and A Room of One' s Own, and analyzes at the same time the roles of men and women and their gender problems. From the viewpoint of postmodern feminist analysis, the women artists' rebellious spirit against traditional society and their quest for freedom in mind is exactly a way out to their problems such as Lily Brisco in To the Lighthouse and Virginia Woolf herself in A Room of One' s Own.
